Heat Dissipation: The friction generated between the brake pads and the brake disc results in the conversion of kinetic energy (the vehicle's motion) into thermal energy (heat). This process heats up the brake disc. 

Slowing or Stopping: The friction and heat generated by this process reduce the speed of the vehicle. In the case of a complete stop, the brake disc, along with the brake pads, helps bring the vehicle to a halt. 

Cooling: After the braking action, the brake disc must cool down. It is designed to dissipate heat efficiently to prevent overheating and warping. Ventilation holes and slots are often incorporated into the design of the brake disc to aid in cooling. 

The brake disc's ability to handle heat and friction is crucial for safe and effective braking. It needs to provide consistent and reliable braking performance, as any issues with the brake disc can result in reduced stopping power and potentially dangerous situations. Regular maintenance and inspection of the brake system, including the condition of the brake discs, are essential for vehicle safety.
